AFAA have considerable experience in the assessment of results from an ILI. AFAA have developed software that is able to perform ILI Run Comparison, Corrosion Growth Assessments and also Fitness-For-Service (FFS) assessments using either deterministic or probabilistic methodologies. AFAA have also provided a training course on the assessment of results from an ILI.

In-Line Inspection (ILI)

AFAA can use either deterministic or probabilistic methodologies to account for the uncertainties in ILI techniques. AFAA have extensive experience of both development and application of such techniques. Extending the time interval between ILIs by just a few years can result in considerable savings to operators.

AFAA use validated and verified in-house software to undertake the assessments thereby keeping assessment costs to a minimum.

At AFAA we have developed fitness-for-service assessment (FFS) software that can read ILI data and assess the severity of the various types of defects to various FFS standards and provide the operator with a repair plan. The advantages of the software are that a significant number of defects can be assessed quickly and which defects/pipe spools the operator should give immediate attention to.

ILI Scheduling

AFAA have completed a number of ILI Run Comparison and Corrosion Growth Assessments. At AFAA we have developed our own software for performing ILI Run Comparisons, where the following information can be obtained:

  • Internal and External Metal Loss

  • Number of matched features.

  • Number of un-matched features

  • Number of new features

This information can then be used to determine the maximum growth of matched and new features along the pipeline. This information can then be used to determine the most appropriate vale for Internal and External corrosion growth rates which is key to determining when to repair defects and schedule the next ILI.
