Hazard Identification (HAZID) studies are normally performed early in a pipeline design project once all the key information relating to the project is available. The output from a successful HAZID study will be a good identification of potential hazards that will result in safeguards being put in place at an early stage of the design process.

At AFAA, we have personnel who have experience both of chairing and contributing to HAZID. Our approach to chairing HAZID studies is to outline the team member responsibilities, to control the meeting, to engage all personnel, to establish a clear agreed list of actions with assigned responsibility and then to close out the actions.
AFAA have developed very sophisticated in-house software for assisting in HAZID studies that has been subjected to extensive validation and verification processes.

HAZCON Software

HAZOP Software

Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies are normally performed once the design is fixed, which allows engineers to provide meaningful answers with regard to how the plant will operate. The success of HAZOP studies depends on having complete and accurate P&ID drawings, design basis documentation, the technical skills of the HAZOP delegates and the ability of the team to use the approach as an aid to their imagination in visualizing deviations, causes, and consequences.
